Overview

At 8,126 m, Nanga Parbat towers as the Western Sentinel of the Himalaya. Locally known as Diamer (Naked Mountain), it has long captured the imagination of climbers and locals alike. To many, it is the Sleeping Beauty of the Himalaya; to others, its darker title looms — the Killer Mountain.

The legend of Nanga Parbat began in tragedy. In 1937, twelve climbers and eighteen Sherpas lost their lives here, cementing its reputation as one of the most dangerous peaks on Earth. Yet, in 1953, Austrian climber Hermann Buhl made mountaineering history with the first ascent — solo, without supplemental oxygen.
In 2016, the mountain saw a new milestone: the first successful winter ascent, achieved by Ali Sadpara (Pakistan), Alex Txikon (Spain), and Simone Moro (Italy).

Today, Nanga Parbat is the second-highest peak in Pakistan after K2 and the ninth highest in the world. To climb it is not just to scale a mountain — it is to join a story of perseverance, tragedy, and triumph that has shaped Himalayan history.
With Johnson Expedition, you’ll approach via the Diamer Face / Kinshofer Route, supported by seasoned guides, small group size, and a safety-first philosophy. From the valleys of Chilas to the icy ridges above Camp IV, every step is backed by decades of expertise and respect for the mountain.
