Overview

Rising to 8,051 m, Broad Peak is the 12th highest mountain in the world and one of the great Karakoram 8000ers. Its name comes from the massive breadth of its summit ridge — nearly 1.5 km long. Located just 8 km from K2, Broad Peak dominates the Baltoro Glacier and offers climbers both a formidable challenge and spectacular rewards.

Broad Peak was first climbed in 1957 by an Austrian team led by Marcus Schmuck and Hermann Buhl, two legends of mountaineering. Today, it is considered one of the more “approachable” 8000ers, but it still demands skill, stamina, and respect. The climb involves long glacier approaches, steep snow slopes, and a high-altitude ridge traverse.

Johnson Expedition approaches Broad Peak via Concordia, establishing Base Camp on the glacier beneath its massive face. After acclimatization and rotations to high camps, climbers attempt the Main Summit (8,051 m), enjoying jaw-dropping views of K2, Gasherbrum I & II, and the endless Karakoram peaks.
