Overview
Rakaposhi (7,788 m) is one of Pakistan’s most famous peaks, dominating the skyline of Hunza Valley and Nagar. Known locally as “Dumani” (Mother of Mist), Rakaposhi is legendary for its beauty and immense vertical relief — rising nearly 6 km from the Hunza River valley floor in a single sweep.
First climbed in 1958 by a British-Pakistani team, Rakaposhi remains a serious climbing challenge due to unpredictable weather, avalanches, and steep snow/ice slopes. Despite its accessibility (it can be seen from the Karakoram Highway), few expeditions attempt Rakaposhi each year, making it a prestigious and rarely summited mountain.
From its summit, climbers are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of Diran Peak, Ultar Sar, Golden Peak (Spantik), and the endless Karakoram panorama stretching into China’s Xinjiang province.
With Johnson Expedition, climbers take on this challenge with full logistical support, acclimatization planning, and an experienced guiding team.
