Overview
Batura Peak (7,772 m) is the highest summit of the Batura Muztagh range, a remote sub-range of the Karakoram in northern Hunza. The mountain dominates the Batura Glacier, which stretches nearly 60 km and is one of the world’s longest non-polar glaciers.
First climbed in 1976 by a Japanese expedition, Batura remains one of the less frequently attempted 7000ers in Pakistan due to its remoteness and logistical demands. Its ascent involves long glacier travel, steep snow and ice slopes, and exposed ridges, making it a serious challenge for seasoned alpinists.
From the summit, climbers are rewarded with incredible views of the Hunza Valley, Passu Cones, Ultar Sar, Rakaposhi, and deep into the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan.
With Johnson Expedition, climbers approach through Hunza’s Passu village, trek along the Batura Glacier, and establish a full-service Base Camp for the ascent.
