Overview
The Chawmos Festival (also called Chaumos) is the largest and most sacred celebration of the Kalash people — a nine-day winter solstice ritual that marks the end of the harvest year and the beginning of a new spiritual cycle.
This festival is a mix of:
fire ceremonies
traditional dancing
ritual chanting
animal sacrifices (non-participatory for tourists)
purification rituals
symbolic storytelling
winter feasts
Chawmos is deeply spiritual and showcases the oldest surviving traditions of the Kalash — a culture believed to be thousands of years old.
Unlike Chilam Joshi or Uchal, Chawmos is an immersive, winter-only experience that provides rare access to remote mountain life in Pakistan.
