Overview

Khosar Gang Peak (6,400 m) dominates the Shigar Valley near Skardu and is often chosen as a first 6000m climb for international mountaineers. Its relative accessibility compared to Baltoro peaks makes it an excellent option for climbers with limited time who still want the thrill of a Himalayan summit.

The route features glacier travel, alpine ridges, and steep snow/ice slopes, culminating in panoramic views of the Karakoram giants — K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum range, and Masherbrum. Its nickname, “Golden Mountain”, comes from the peak’s golden glow at sunrise and sunset.

With Johnson Expedition, climbers travel from Islamabad to Skardu, drive into Shigar Valley, and establish a Base Camp close to the mountain. After acclimatization and setting up a High Camp, the summit push rewards climbers with one of the best viewpoints in the region.
